Yesterday, Joyce joined Bite Society as our very first member of the crew, where she'll be running the show for us in Hong Kong!
We first met each other in vegan activist circles a couple years back. I had heard about her work setting up the Hong Kong Pig Save chapter and other events.
We ended up meeting at a veg fair then continued to bump into each other at all the various events, from movie screenings (Cowspiracy, Dominion etc) through to street events to restaurant flyer campaigns etc...
Fast forward to early last month, when we were at a potluck with a few other vegan friends, and we started to chat about the Bite project. I mentioned the goals (get vegan food out everywhere as fun, affordable and tasty as possible, and be transparent to encourage others too start their own projects as well) and we just seemed to be on a common wavelength. We both seemed to agree that food activism has an important role to play alongside other forms..
We then started chatting more on whatsapp and over the discussions we talked about a need for someone to head up the operation in Hong Kong (especially given I'm spending most of my time in Melbourne) and whether she might be interested in the role. Turns out she did have some time available and she was keen to give it a go, and here we are!
So she has her hands full to figure out logistics, work with launch partners, start contacting more shops and pull together marketing ideas.. but it should be start of a fun journey and looking forward to work together on this big mission :)
