Have you ever wondered what a vegan world would look like? Vikas Garg, CEO and founder of abillionveg, is turning this into reality through an app that makes eating vegan easier, while encouraging people to make a difference, one review at a time. But abillionveg is no ordinary platform. We spoke with Vikas about the challenges he has faced so far including the difficulties in building a team, as well as the future for the startup and their goal to donate $1 million this year. This is his story.
It's safe to say we learned a lot from this week's episode. But what stood out to us the most, was the way Vikas approached the challenges he faced, and continues to face, especially during the start of abillionveg.
Vikas: 'There are many challenges. The cool part is that everybody can overcome them, it's just a matter of being really determined and attacking things one at a time.'
Vikas: 'The first thing I did was take General Assembly's coding bootcamp. I didn't do this because I had a vision of becoming a coder, but I knew if I sat in a room with 20-30 other people trying to learn, I may be able to pick 2 or 3 that are the best and convince them to come and work with me.'
And it worked!
Vikas: 'I was a terrible coder. But I would actively talk to the other coders in the class, one of which Jonathan, started the company with me right away.'
Not only does immersing yourself in the space and developing some skills help give you an opportunity to meet people who may be able to help you in your startup, but it also lends you credibility, especially if you are from outside the tech space.
We also have to admire abillionveg, for setting a new standard when it comes to technology and social media platforms, with the company setting a goal to donate $1 million USD to partner organisations this year.
'The donations are a key part of the DNA of the company.'
Eating delicious vegan food, and helping animals - what could be better than that!
